Founded in Manchester, in 2022, Picture Nova comprise Arthur Baker on vocals and rhythm guitar, Brad Hughes on drums, Callum Smith on bass and DaNeel Selly on lead guitar. “The band members’ first-name initials are ABCD… spooky!” they point out.

The three original members - all Music Engineering undergraduates at Spirit Studios, had started out without a front man. But thanks to Manchester's vibrant live music scene, it wasn’t long before they spotted Arthur, an undergraduate at BIMM, playing an acoustic set at The Lion’s Den, on Deansgate Mews. It was a cover version of Starman that clinched the deal for them.

​Now a four-piece, the band went straight into rehearsals, planning to perform just cover songs. By the end of their first session, though, they'd written their debut single, a neo-punk track called Nancy. “Covers are for others!” they announced with confidence. Picture Nova’s journey had begun.
